For sale is my 2005 VW Phaeton V8 with only 70,250 miles on the odometer and a transferable full bumper-to-bumper extended warranty w/ 4 months and 35k miles left. I'm the third owner of this beautiful and well preserved Phaeton and have the full owner & maintenance history, manuals, keys and window sticker. The car is located in the San Francisco Bay Area and I have the clear California title in hand. For California buyers I'll provide a current smog test and registration is already paid through November 2017!
This Phaeton has all maintenance up-to-date and is ready for its new owner. It's not new obviously, but is the cleanest Phaeton I ever came across and I currently own four of them. There are some very minor paint chips on the front bumper (being an Arizona car it has no front license plate holder and no holes for it!), a tiny scratch on the trunk lid and a small scratch in the chrome strip of the rear bumper.
Everything works with the only exception being the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) which was deactivated when the previous owner installed new tires but opted not to replace the sensors.
Please make sure to look at all the 200+ pictures below to see how well preserved this Phaeton is.
Features:
I'm not going to list every feature here because everyone seriously looking at Phaetons already knows how special those cars are and what they are all about (understated luxury!) including the many engineering highlights.
This is a 2005 model year so it has the different grille, soft-close doors, extended wood trim on the center console, the painted shark fin antenna and different 18" wheels.
VIN: WVWAF93D558001711
Engine: 4.2l V8 with 335 bhp (Code: BGH)
Transmission: 6-Speed Automatic (Code: HEM)
Exterior Color: CouCou Gray (Code: R7T)
Interior Color: Anthracite, Vienna Leather (Code: LA)
Wood Trim: Eucalyptus (Code: 7TE)
I included a photo of the body tag in the photo section below. This shows all the production option codes that are installed.
Some of the many Phaeton features:
- Full 4-wheel air suspension with ride height and dampening adjustments
- Permanent All-wheel Drive
- ESP and ABS
- 10 Airbags (front, side, curtain)
- Draft less 4-Zone Climate Control with automatic vent covers
- Navigation
- 12-way Power Front Seats w/ heating
- 4-way Power Steering Column
- Power rear sunshade and rear side privacy shades
- Xenon Headlights with automatic height adjustment
- Soft-Close Doors
- Real Eucalyptus wood trim
- Sunroof with power sunshade and automatic speed-sensitive (!!) wind deflector adjustment
Modifications:
- The original owner had the windows tinted (except for the windshield)
- I installed a Gruvenparts Billet Oil Filter Cap to replace the crappy plastic original one
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System is deactivated due to low batteries in the sensors. TPMS controller is present and works
- I installed a XM Radio Receiver, Antenna and AUX input adapter (Dension iGateway Lite GW1LAUB). The receiver is mounted the ash tray cover on the center console and the magnetic antenna sits on the metal grille of the dash pad. I removed the CD player to plug the Dension unit into that harness. This is setup is fully reversible with no permanent damage done to the car and the CD player comes with the car if the buyer so desires
- Installed Warning Triangle on inside of Trunk Lid (this is a Euro option)
Owner History:
This Phaeton was sold new in Tucson, AZ on 7/22/2005 to an owner from the Scottsdale, AZ area where it became part of the owner's extensive car collection and was stored indoors. It was dealer maintained at the VW dealership in Scottsdale. The second owner bought it directly from the first owner in November 2011 with 39k miles on the odometer and drove it to its home in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. He used it as his daily driver, had it always parked in his garage and maintained at the local VW dealership in Walnut Creek, CA, which has two Phaeton certified techs.
In March 2013 I was looking for my first Phaeton and convinced the second owner (also a VWVortex Member) to sell me the car. At that time it had 54k miles on it and was still under an extended warranty purchased by the first owner.
I'm also in the SF Bay Area so the car has always been in a dry western climate. In the first year of my ownership my wife and I used the car for part-time commuting and put about $10k miles on it. The last three years our commute changed and also due the purchase of 3 more daily driver Phaetons it ended up hardly being used and became a garage queen. Last year we drove it only 1,000 miles and only in nice weather for special occasions. Since my wife and I now each have our own W12 Phaetons we don't really use this Phaeton anymore and it's time to find a new home for it.
Extended Warranty:
I purchased a 4 years/48k miles/$100 deductible extended warranty from CAN (Automotive Preferred Care) through the local VW dealership at around $3.5k when I bought the car. This is an exclusionary warranty which covers everything except what is listed as excluded in the contract which is essential just wear items like brake pads, oils and fluids. This type of warranty is not available once a car hits 100k miles or 10 years in age so there are no Phaetons left that could now be covered with such a warranty!
The expiration date is 7/3/2017 and the expiration mileage 106,010. The warranty is fully transferable and I'll provide the paperwork to transfer it to the new owner.
To this date I have not used the extended warranty because this Phaeton has been exceptionably reliable!
Maintenance History:
The first and second owner both had all the maintenance done at their local VW dealer by certified Phaeton techs while the car was under the factory warranty and the first bumper-to-bumper extended warranty. Therefore everything was kept in top shape and no expenses were spared.
Even though I purchased a 4-year extended warranty when I acquired the car, I started to research all the typical Phaeton issues and performed all maintenance myself. In fact the extended warranty I currently have, has not been used a single time, that's how reliable the car has been. For any maintenance that was needed I kept full documentation of parts invoices and photos of the work done and I'll included all that in the sale.
Maintenance Highlights:
- Full Timing Belt Service done at 61k miles as preventive maintenance (including new VW water pump & thermostat, belts, all timing belt tensioners/pulleys)
- Regular maintenance is up to date (oil changes, brake fluid flushes, air filter changes, cabin air filter changes, spark plugs, ...)
- Tires have 24k miles on them and plenty of thread left
- All 4 window regulators have been replaced (a common Phaeton issue)
- New ignition coils (a VW recall campaign)
- Both batteries were replaced 4 years ago with original VW ones
- New headlight bulbs
I have included a complete maintenance history chart at the bottom of the page and all maintenance documents going back to day one will be included in the sale!
